Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation in Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) Access Networks

چکیده
Fiber wireless access (FiWi) network is a category of hybrid network, which cumulates the advantages of optical network and wireless network at frontend and backend respectively. FiWi is one of those networks which are capable of providing high bandwidth as well as great flexibility. In today’s world of high speed applications demand of spectrum is increasing rapidly, hence it becomes critically important to utilized available bandwidth efficiently. Therefore, many dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithms have been proposed in recent years for FiWi network which can improve the utilization of bandwidth. DBA algorithms can be classified as DBA at PON, DBA at wireless and hybrid DBA depending upon the implementation of DBA at backend or frontend or both respectively. In this paper, a detail study of DBA at frontend and backend is done; separately as well as simultaneously. Considering bandwidth utilization as most important parameter, its literature and brief explanation is also provided. DBA algorithms are generally categorized in three types of services i.e. limited service DBA, fixed service DBA and gated service DBA. Simulation of these services of DBA is also done in the paper which helps us to analyze the effectiveness of different DBA services by comparing them to each other.

FiWi network throughput-delay modeling with traffic intensity control and local bandwidth allocation
Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) networks typically combine an optical access network with a wireless access network so as to build on the respective strengths of the optical and wireless network technologies. Prior analytical throughput-delay studies of FiWi networks have typically considered heavy-loaded traffic models, i.e., constantly backlogged source nodes. In contrast, in this paper we present a mo...

Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...
متن کاملGrouping by Cycle Length (GCL) for long-range FiWi networks
The integration of wireless access networks with optical access networks in the so-called fiber-wireless (FiWi) networks has recently emerged as a promising strategy for providing flexible network services at relatively high transmission rates. FiWi network research to date has mainly focused on optical access networks with the normal reach (around 20 km) of passive optical networks (PONs). We ...

Hybrid Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) networks become rapidly mature and represent a promising candidate for reducing power consumption, costs, and bandwidth bottlenecks of next-generation broadband access networks. Two key FiWi technologies with similar design goals are Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) and WiMAX. In this paper, we develop a powerful and flexible techno-economic analysis to compa...
متن کاملA Game-Based Algorithm for Fair Bandwidth Allocation and QoS Support in Fibre-Wireless Access Networks
Fibre-Wireless (FiWi) access networks have been proposed as flexible and cost-effective solutions for future access networks. However, good resource allocation proposals able to support the QoS required by new services and applications still need to be developed for these architectures. At the wireless mesh section, wireless routers have to forward both local traffic from directly connected use...
